August 30th to September 3rd 2007: I've registered for the 2007 Science Fiction Worldcon in Tokyo, Japan!
In years past I've been to the following Worldcons: Chicon (Chicago: 2000, 1991 and 1982), Conspiracy'87 (Brighton, England: 1987), Noreascon (Boston: 1989) and ConFrancisco (San Francisco, California: 1993). This will be the first Worldcon in Japan, and it should be an incredible event!
2006 Conventions & Travel
Los Angeles, California, November 5th to November 10th, 2006: Sorry for the late notice, but it's just been confirmed that I'll be flying in from Shanghai to Los Angeles on Sunday, November 5th. While some of my time will be taken up with interviews (the prospetive employer is paying for the flight!), I'd like to do some Game Mastering with local role-playing enthusiasts. Feel free to get in touch!
Los Angeles, California, May 17th to May 20th, 2005:
I've just received confirmation that I'll be joining the Ubisoft team at E3, the huge 'Electronic Entertainment Exposition' that will show off the best of the electronic game industry. Click on the image below for details:
San Francisco, California, March 7th to March 11th, 2005:
The GDC, or Game Developers Conference, is the yearly get together for over 10,000 professionals in the game biz, and a great place to meet old friends! I'm also delighted that some of my students will be there, since they've been named finalists in the Student Showcase of the Independent Game Festival.
2004 Conventions & Travel
Indianapolis, Indiana, August 19th to August 22nd, 2004:
One of the few regrets about spending 2003 in Hong Kong was missing Gencon, my yearly role-playing pilgrimage since 1985. As in years past I intend to Game Master like crazy, especially when it comes to wild and experimental stuff. Currently my favorite on-going campaign is something I call 'Quantum Time,' and I'm very much looking forward to getting together for session five with the players...
Espoo (near Helsinki), Finland, July 22nd to July 27th:
The picture below is of the panel where all the Ropecon Guests of Honor appeared together. From left: Emma Wieslander, an awesome feminist/experimental Live Action Role-Player; Syksy Rsnen, role-player, physicist, activist and very cool cat; Erick Wujcik (me); and John Kovalic, the well-known cartoonist behind Dork Tower:
The good folks from Ropecon flew me out, and I had a great time! I Game Mastered a bunch of my strange role-playing events (including a session of 'Zelaforms' at the Monday night sauna party; which I ran wearing nothing but a towel!) one seminar, a panel, and a lot of very good talk. Here's famed role-playing game designer Jonathan Tweet's take on the 2003 RopeCon: website.
The erick-on-the-road e-group:
Whenever possible, wherever I end up, I enjoy acting as Game Master for local gamers. In order to facilitate communication, figure out schedules, and share location instructions, I like to use my own personal e-group. Once you join, you'll receive updates on my plans by e-mail, and you can send e-mail that will reach everyone else in the e-group. It's a fast, web-based way of coordinating my role-playing events.
2005 Tentative Travel
Michigan, September, 2005:
My plans aren't firm, but I expect to be coming to Michigan for a week or two, sometime this September.
