Yes, I'm promoting a political agenda here, but one endorsed by Will Wright, and (sadly) necessary in these difficult times:
This is my favorite comedy of all time. A radio show produced by some mad savants in a basement of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and for some reason actually set loose upon the public airwaves for five amazing seasons. Everything is ficticious, yet everything is played straight-faced, from the BCN itself, to virtually all the on-line 'talent,' as well as a range of madcap locations which even extended to "Oougubomba," Newfoundland's failed African colony, all based on the fact that, once upon a time, Newfoundland was an independent country, before being foisted into the Confederation of Canada (this, at least, is true...). Early episodes dwell on the release of Paul Moth's biography The Rocky Road to Recovery, his memoir of a "mescal-sodden world of megalomaniacal delusion, trance states, narcotic indulgence and firearms obsession," but the cast of riveting characters just delighted me, including Erling Biggs, the put-upon intellectual "Weather Watchdog," and Morris Jesso, mortician and host of the BCN's highest-rated show, "Interred," and women far too complex and nuanced for me to describe here. Suffice to say I am a huge fan, and the fact that we have more of Paul Moth in the Summer of 2004 just fills me with joy!
